The Making of a Tract/Photos of Local Market

Thursday, September 10, 2009

Since my last post I've been very busy printing, working on the computer and helping my dad finish some Summer projects. I praise the Lord for keeping us safe this Summer as we've driven many many km back and forth to the print shop (60km one way). If you've been in Romania before you'll know that the drivers are crazy and serious accidents are common.

Below you'll find three photos of how we produce a small booklet gospel tract (Sens Unic = Only Way). This tract was designed by Cornel, a man in brother Logan's church in Brasov, he's a great artist and always creating interesting things for me to print!

First they're printed and collated (4 sheets of paper)

Then stapled and folded

And finally cut into individual tracts!

The nearest "Town" for us is Rupea. It has a few small hardware and grocery stores and a hospital. Rupea also has a piaţă (open market) every Friday. Sometimes we'll take a group of people in so they can buy things they need. They sell fruits and vegetables, clothes, tools, grain for livestock and many other things. It's an interesting place (for an hour anyway, longer than that and I'm ready to go!).

New Theme!

Saturday, August 15, 2009

I finally installed a different theme! My sisters kept hinting that mine was boring :-) I decided to take an evening and look through themes after receiving a few e-mails from them. After wading through 150+ templates I narrowed it down to 5! I wanted something simple with a little color and interest, and NO annoying graphics! Most of them are very specific to a subject and the photos/graphics didn't work.

Please let me know what you think of this one, if you hate it I may consider changing it for you :-)

Photos of Printshop/Bibles

Thursday, August 6, 2009

Here's the photos I promised you of the printing equipment and of us working in the printshop. Some of the photos are a little boring...but I thought you might like to see some of the machines we use. We were working on the Romanian Bible, lots and lots of paper (over 45,000 sheets of paper printed in a week)! We have a lot more to print:-)

Arielle and Arianna working in the printshop

Arianna jogging a Bible. Much easier than doing it by hand!

Here I am checking some pages of a Bible

A paper cutter we bought last week. We needed something that could cut 70x100cm card stock for covers etc. Our electric Guillotine paper cutter works great but can only cut up to 47cm wide.

The hot foil machine we bought for covers. It took me several days and many many hours to learn how to use it (and I still have a lot more to learn!).

An old manual paper creaser we use for book covers.

The glue binder with about 80 Bible ready to be bound.

The finished Bibles.

July/August Prayer Letter

Sunday, August 2, 2009

I've been very busy working in the printing ministry for the last month...I'm sorry I haven't posted in a while:-) Tomorrow I'll try to post some photos of the new printing equipment we purchased and also of us working in the print shop.

I've posted my prayer letter for those of you who don't receive it in the mail...enjoy!

Getting timber for the fence

August, 2009

“Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.” Eccl. 9:10

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Summer. For many people it means vacations, hot weather, and no school. As missionaries, it’s often the busiest time of the year as people in our village tend to stay in their houses in the winter. In the last two months we have been going non-stop with ministry, constructing a fence for our back property and printing. We also had four young people from our home church visit us for the month of June. They were a great blessing and encouragement as we worked and ministered together. One thing that missionaries miss on a foreign field is fellowship. I praise the Lord for the groups God sends to help us!

I have been very busy formatting the new Bible translation here in Romania. After formatting almost 1,500 pages on the computer in two different page sizes, I’m glad to have a break from the computer! We’re also printing the complete Bible, a huge job that has taken a lot of coordination and work. I praise the Lord that we were able to buy four new machines this month (new to us that is)! We bought a paper creaser, paper jogger, a larger manual paper cutter, and a hot foil embossing machine. The foil embosser will be used for book covers and other special projects. Please continue to pray that God will provide a color offset press for us; there’s a great need for quality tracts in Eastern Europe and we need this machine to print them.

The Lord has blessed me abundantly this month! He provided more printing equipment and also allowed me to sell my car (it wasn’t worth it to fix it). With the money from the sale of my car plus what I had saved I was able to buy a 2002 Mazda 4x4 truck. When I was looking they were 3,000 Euro more than I could afford. The Lord lead me to this truck and I was able to buy it for well below the market value! I would like to thank all my faithful supporters. I greatly appreciate your prayers and financial help.
